Richard Wagner was a craftsman of the operatic art. Non one composed operas on a grander or more complex scale. Often called "the ring cycle," this work takes over sixteen hours to perform in its entirety. Our selection, The Ride of the Valkyrie, is one of the more famous themes from the cycle.

In Episode 55, we move from the Medieval period to the Renaissance, a time filled with new ideas and growth in music and art. Palestrina, our composer this week, has been called the greatest composer of liturgical music of all time. He is certainly an excellent example of a composer of the Renaissance.
